Trezur is an augmented-reality treasure hunt and walking-tour app operated by West Edge, LLC (“West Edge”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what the Trezur app collects, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It covers the Trezur app and the Trezur website at trezur.app.
You must be 13 or older
Trezur is not intended for children under 13. Before your first adventure you must confirm that you are at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email info@westedge.us and we will delete it.
You can play without an account
Trezur does not require an email address, password, or phone number to play. The first time you open the app it creates a random anonymous player ID (a UUID) and stores it in your browser. That ID is what links your progress, your team, and your play sessions together. The site also sets a first-party trezur_device cookie with a different random UUID so destination analytics can recognize the same browser after you reset progress. Neither ID is tied to your real name, and neither is an advertising identifier or a device fingerprint.
Information you give us
- Explorer name. The first name or nickname you choose. It is shown to you and to anyone on your team.
- Home postal code. We ask where you are visiting from as a postal code (any country). We look that code up and store the city, region or state, country, and the approximate center coordinates of that postal area. The city name the app shows you is a confirmation of the code you entered — we do not ask for a street address.
- Team details. Team name, team code, and which teammates are playing together.
- Adventures you build. The name, summary, and stops of any custom adventure you create.
- Feedback and interview answers. What you write when you send feedback, report a bug, report wrong information from the Trail Guide, or answer the Trail Guide’s end-of-adventure questions. If you flag a Trail Guide answer as wrong, the recent conversation transcript is attached so we can correct it.
- Messages to the Trail Guide. What you type or say to the in-app AI guide while a conversation is open.
- Anything you send us directly. If you email us for support, or give us contact details to claim a prize or reward, we keep what you send.
- Contributor submissions. If you have contributor access and add or correct a location, the title, category, coordinates, and photo you submit are stored on our servers and may appear in the app.
Information the app collects while you play
- Anonymous player, device, and session IDs. Used to attach progress and play sessions to your browser without identifying you. The device cookie survives an in-app progress reset so testers and returning players are not counted as many people.
- Location. While the map or a hunt is open, the app uses your device’s precise location to place you on the map, decide when you are close enough to a treasure, place augmented-reality objects, and give walking directions. Play sessions also record the path you walked, how long you lingered at places, and gameplay events such as arriving at a stop, finding a treasure, or starting an AR experience.
- Gameplay progress. Treasures and coins found, stops and maps completed, adventures selected, and which teammate collected what.
- Diagnostics attached to feedback. When you submit feedback or a bug report, the app attaches the state it was in — current stop, game phase, map style, on-screen status, your most recent location reading — and our server records your browser’s user-agent string and IP address with the report.
- Standard server logs kept by our hosting provider, such as IP address, request time, and user agent.
Camera, microphone, and motion sensors
Trezur asks for each permission only at the moment a feature needs it, never all at once.
- Camera. Used for augmented-reality experiences — historic photo overlays, murals, statues, and other tracked images — and for taking photos at a stop. Image tracking runs on your device. The camera feed is not streamed to us or to a third party.
- Photos you take. Snapshots saved to your Treasure Box are stored in your browser’s storage on your own device. They are not uploaded to us. You can delete them individually in the album or clear them all with an in-app reset.
- Microphone. Used only while a Trail Guide voice conversation is open. Audio is sent to our voice provider, ElevenLabs, to power the conversation. We do not listen in the background or record audio outside of that conversation.
- Motion and orientation sensors. Used on iPhone and iPad to align AR objects with the real world. This data stays on your device.
You can decline or later revoke any of these permissions in your browser or device settings. The features that depend on them will stop working; the rest of the app will keep working.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use advertising identifiers (such as IDFA or Android Advertising ID), advertising SDKs, or ad networks.
- We do not use third-party marketing or analytics trackers such as Google Analytics or social-media pixels. The gameplay analytics described above are our own and are tied to your anonymous player ID.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not share your personal information with tourism partners, destination organizations, or other businesses for their own marketing. If we ever offer something like that, it will be optional, and we will update this policy before it happens.
- We do not ask for payment card information in the app.
How we use this information
- Run the game: show the map, place treasures, unlock AR experiences, track progress, and keep teams in sync.
- Save your progress on our servers so it is not lost if your browser clears its local storage.
- Give directions and suggest routes and stops that fit the adventure you chose.
- Power the Trail Guide so it can answer questions about where you are and what is nearby.
- Fix bugs, improve routes and AR accuracy, and correct wrong information.
- Understand how adventures are used overall — which stops are popular, where players actually walk, where people get stuck.
- Respond to you when you contact us.
- Protect the app from abuse, including rate limiting and spam prevention, and meet legal obligations.
Who we share information with
- Your teammates. When you play on a team, your explorer name, your live position on the team map, and the treasures you collect are visible to the other members of that team.
- Service providers that make features work. ElevenLabs (Trail Guide voice and conversation), Komoot’s Photon service (postal code and place lookup), OSRM and OpenStreetMap-based routing services (walking and driving directions), OpenStreetMap and Overpass (sidewalk and point-of-interest data), CARTO and Esri (map tiles and satellite imagery), public code and asset delivery networks, and our website hosting provider. Each receives only what its feature needs — typically coordinates, a map tile request, or the text and audio of a Trail Guide conversation — and handles it under its own privacy terms.
- Aggregated or de-identified statistics. We may share summary figures such as how many players visited an area, which stops are most popular, or typical route patterns with venues, cities, and destination organizations we work with. These summaries do not identify you.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of players, the public, or West Edge.
- Business transfer. If West Edge sells or transfers the Trezur business, player information may transfer with it, subject to this policy.
What is stored on your device
Trezur uses your browser’s local storage for game progress and a first-party trezur_device cookie for analytics identity. Local storage holds your anonymous player ID, explorer name and home postal code, team and progress, age confirmation, permission acknowledgements, map style and zoom preferences, Trail Guide voice settings, tutorial progress, and Treasure Box photos. The device cookie is a random UUID we set; it is not a fingerprint, and we do not sell it. Clearing site data for trezur.app removes it. An in-app reset clears progress and the player ID but keeps the device cookie. WordPress also sets cookies if you sign in to a staff or administrator account.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep gameplay, session, and feedback records for as long as they are useful for running and improving Trezur, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. You can remove your information in these ways:
- Clear it on your device. Use the in-app reset to clear your player identity, progress, team link, and Treasure Box photos. That reset does not delete the analytics device cookie. Clear site data for trezur.app in your browser settings to remove that cookie as well.
- Ask us to delete the server copy. Email info@westedge.us with your explorer name or player ID and we will delete the guest record, progress, and session history associated with it.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing info@westedge.us. Depending on where you live — for example California, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom — you may have additional rights, including the right to a copy of your information, to object to certain processing, or to complain to your data protection authority. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we will not treat you differently for exercising a privacy right.
Security and location of data
Trezur is served over encrypted connections, and access to player records is limited to people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Our servers and service providers are located in or may process data in the United States; if you play from another country, your information will be handled there.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will make it visible in the app before the change takes effect.
